The Island Queen Diving Information Sheet

 

Welcome, everyone, to The Dive Shop’s Island Queen on Greer’s Ferry Lake.  The Island Queen is a 58 foot Dive/Houseboat that has seen over 30 years of diver certification here at the lake.  We hope you enjoy your time with us.

 

Departure and Return Schedule

Morning

Check in:          9:00am             Saturday and Sunday

Departure:        9:30am             Saturday and Sunday

Return:             3:00pm Saturday

                        2:00pm Sunday

Evening

Check in:          6:00pm Saturday Only

Departure         6:30pm Saturday Only

Return              9:30pm Saturday Only

 

Pre-launch Briefing

Gather on the fuel deck, Starboard side at 9:00am before loading gear.  This briefing will cover gear stowage information and important safety information. 

§         All passengers and students sailing onboard the Island Queen must sign the roster each day.

§         All passengers not seeking open water certification or specialty certification must sign a release.

§         All passengers and students should move topside after all paperwork and loading is completed.

Loading

§         Open Water Students: load all gear on the bow (front) of the boat.

§         Specialty Students and Divers: load all gear on the stern (back) of the boat.

§         Personal coolers and day gear: load all personal items topside against the railing.

Do not block walkways, doors, winches, or gang plank.

Underway

§         Do not sit on rails or hang arms or legs under railing.

§         Do not stand in doorway or in from of the helm. (where the steering wheel is)

§         Do not move about the boat while the boat is in motion.

§         Children under 10 must wear a Life Preserver while the boat is in motion.

§         Children must be supervised at all times.

 

Dive Site

§         Stay away from the bow and side walkways during anchoring operations.

§         Remain seated until the captain shuts off the engines and gives the all clear.

§         Do not enter the cabin with wet clothes, towels, or people.

§         Equipment

§         Do not jump or dive from the top areas of the boat at any time.

§         Do not stand on or near where the gang plank touches the shore

Certified Divers

§         Inform the captain of your buddy team

§         Log your entry time on the dive board immediately prior to entering the water.

§         Log your exit time on the dive board immediately after exiting the water.

           

Equipment

All divers should have the following:

q     Buoyancy Compensator

q     Air Delivery System

q     Mouthpieces

q     2 Cylinders (if you rented cylinders write down the numbers for identification later)

q     Weights

q     Dive slates and tables

q     Personal dive accessories (if any)

q     Log book

q     Sun block

q     Lunch

q     Drinks (be sure to bring plenty of water)

q     Towel

q     Medication (if any)

 

Please abide by the following rules for equipment

§         Work out of your dive bags.

§         Do not leave loose gear on the deck.

§         Stow all gear in your dive bag prior to the return trip.

§         Remove all gear from the boat at the end of the day.

§         Take all empty air cylinders to the Air Fill Station at the marina to be filled overnight. (Saturday only)

§         Pay for the air fills the following morning.
