I began my diving career while in the Navy in the Philippines in 1969. I dove on the most beautiful reefs I have ever seen while I spent 1 1/2 years there. After my return to the states, and discharge, I was employed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as an agent and one of my duties was to dive for the state as needed. During that time, I received Dive Rescue I and II certifcations from SSI, which included the rescue techniques for underwater vehicles, aircraft and white water rescue.

I left the G.B.I. in 1982 and did not dive much until I was transferred to Charlotte, NC where I began diving with Paradise Island Divers. While there, I completed all basic and advanced courses including Complete User Nitrox and subsequently received my Instructor Certification in 1992. I have been teaching since.
